David Lawrason: Review of 2011 Equinoxe Syrah
If this were inserted blind into a northern Rhone syrah tasting few would dispute its origin – left only to squabble about appellation and vintage. It has all the acidity (and more) you could expect from a French example, with classic pepper, caper/brine, smoke meat and a core of cherry fruit. It’s mid-weight, firm and almost but not quite tart, with firm tannin. The focus and length are excellent. It trails granitic minerality on the tart-edged finish. Best 2015 to 2020. A fine effort in a tough cool BC vintage.
