WINEMAKING NOTES
Équinoxe: equal day, equal night; equal heat of the day, equal cool of the night; equal new world, equal old world.
The 2022 Équinoxe Syrah, as in years past, is sourced from multiple plots across the South Okanagan Valley. Crafted in a traditional spirit — where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts — it draws inspiration from the great blended lieux-dits of the Rhône, in the vein of Jamet, Jean-Louis Chave, and Clape. The result is a monumental Syrah, dark garnet in colour, seamlessly uniting Old World nuance with New World depth.
This wine is at the same time feminine and masculine, carrying grace and power in equal measure. Spice and lifted florals weave through savoury, gamey undertones, achieving a poised yin-and-yang balance. Compared to the broader 2020 and 2021 vintages, 2022 is more restrained, elegant, and finely etched. If you loved 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2019, then 2022 is unequivocally the right vintage for you. White pepper leads the aromatic profile, with subtle black peppercorn emerging and wild florals unfolding in the glass. Surprisingly open-knit and charming upon release, it offers early pleasure, yet its impeccable balance promises a long and rewarding evolution in cellar.
