Palate Press: Review of 2010 Syrah

The emergence of syrah in Canada, and in particular in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, has been one of the most pleasant developments of the last few years, in Canada, and this wine is one of the finest examples of what that grape can do in that particular region. Born of the 2010 vintage, which had winemakers in the Okanagan stressing over record rain and exceptionally cool weather, it shows the mix of tension and aromatic expressiveness that makes people crave for Northern Rhône syrahs like Côte-Rôtie and Saint-Joseph. Multilayered and complex, it makes you constantly want to go back to the glass and take in its ripe and young aromas of black pepper, black fruit, herbs and spices, bacon and a touch of anise – the descriptors could go on and on. The tannin structure is fine and tight, and the wine has as much freshness as depth. Definitely worth keeping around for a few years.  Very highly recommended.
